A Work In Progress- Connor Franta

Today is April 21, 15 and it is the exact day that Connor Franta, YouTube Sensation, released his first book, A Work In Progress. I am not going to lie to you and say that I am not a fan of his work on YouTube. In fact, I am a big fan as he is a fellow Minnesotan and survivor of our harsh winters. And if you can survive those you can pretty much survive anything, haha I kid.. I kid, but really. This early morning at the shy hour of 4 am I woke up to go out and purchase his book and receive a lavender wrist band to meet him! Imagine my surprise when I arrive at the Mall of America and have to wait outside at 6:15 am. Unfortunately, it was an extremely cold spring, which really could have been considered winter with the snowflakes. I stood outside for TWO HOURS! With the maybe 300 people that stood outside with me, no one knew! It wasn’t posted on the website nor anywhere else. The 300 or so of us could have easily been aloud to wait inside safely. Alas that wasn’t the case, after those snowy hours we were finally aloud inside but we didn’t get to get in or get out no we had to wait in another line. This line lasted roughly 30 minutes which wasn’t to bad since it was warmer inside. The reason it took so long was because they only had TWO registers waiting for us to get our books. TWO! What kind of madness is this! They had enough wristbands for 1200 people and only two registers. That still makes me a little heated as I write this.
So finally I had the wristband on my wrist and the books in my hands! The day seemed perfect from there on out. I had decided the night before to not show up to the meet and greet earlier than 6 yesterday since I knew the queue would be extremely long and waiting in lines was not a thing I wanted to spend my entire day doing. I was going to see him walk in and then walk around the mall and get some food. The girls and boys in the queue right in front of the stage danced, screamed, and changed his name over and over again until a loud scream erupted from the crowd when we finally got to see him. It was unreal, since he is a person that uses YouTube to communicate his outlooks and opinions to his subscribers it makes him seem like a fictional character because we never get to see him in person. But he is real and I can’t wait to meet him. As I am writing this in the Food Court at the Mall of America I can here the occasional scream, which may or may not be coming from the people on the rides but lets just pretend it’s the girls and boys waiting to see him, I have not met him yet so once I have I will finish this crazy story!

The wait in line wasn’t to bad. I brought my laptop and other items I didn’t need to carry around, like the cute notebooks I just bought, to my car and went back in side. I walked around a little while longer and noticed that the line was very long so I headed for the elevator and jumped in. The line ended up taking quiet a long time. I went in line around 7 o’clock-ish and didn’t get to meet him until 8:40-ish. The times are a little bit fuzzy because the excitement was overwhelming. While I waited in line I read a book on my phone, since I had already finished Connors books.. I’m a nerd Alright. The book is called The Vincent Boys by Abbi Glines and is an all time favorite. Definitely read if you haven’t! The time passes actually really fast. The anticipation was killing me I just wanted to hug him and hear his voice in person. God, I sound so weird saying that. As the line inched closer and closer I was finally inches away from him. Ah! It gives me chills, I suddenly got very nervous and didn’t want to say the wrong thing. The two things I wanted to say I didn’t say. I am very disappointed in myself but I still got to hug him and get my picture with him. He is such a sweetheart. As I was walking away I got teary eyed. I had seen girls walk away from him crying and I thought that it was a little over the top but then I finally got it. Their idol someone they look up to was right in their mists and they wanted to sit down and have a conversation with him. Well I did anyways, I don’t know about them so much. I still feel a little emotional over the event but I am so glad I got up at 4 am to get that wristband. I wouldn’t have changed a thing.

(Picture to come)

Connor Franta’s Book- A Work In Progress

Amazing novel. Well written, I felt as if though he was sitting there in a video on his YouTube channel  speaking right to me, if that was what he was going for it was amazing. There are tons of great touches of him that we haven’t been able to see before and the pictures were gorgeous!

  My Favorite Chapters-
ú  All of the chapters are amazing but there were a few that touched my heart.
§  Life Doesn’t wait- pg 203- the final chapter
§  Missing Out- pg 55
§  Creativity- pg 93
§  Flawful- pg 113
§  Live now, worry later – pg 145
§  It gets better. Really.- pg 163

They are all amazing chapters it was hard to lower it down to the few that I did. The chapters in the book aren’t long so reading the whole book is easy but if your low on time I suggest reading those chapters- on good days or bad days or every day in between- this book is perfect!
